Thursday Sep 26, 2019
Thursday Sep 26, 2019
I was asked to present to the Johnston, Iowa Chamber of Commerce a community of roughly 18,000 people just north of Des Moines. Following my presentation I offered my microphone to anybody who would like to chat a bit about business. Jim De Kruif from First Point Wealth Management which is part of First National Bank took me up on my offer. Here is that conversation AND here is the link to his upcoming free seminar, "Income for What's Next".

If it's not China it's consumers, if it's not consumers it's impeachment. The markets whipsawed today by worries that President Trump may not survive a congressional inquiry. The Dow lost 142 points to 26,807 the Nasdaq was off by 118 points and the S&P 500 down by 25 points. Wall Street had issues today. Also in the news:
Consumers are not as jolly about the economy;
The thing you don't know about is called the REPO Market;
The new "Wealth Tax" from Sen. Bernie Sanders;
Big Pharma fights against lower prices;
A beer IPO may be a really, really big deal.
Those stories and our guest for The Interview is Matt Kiernan from CLE Productions. We'll talk about the magic they make for events plus you'll be invited to a CLE Production Talks featuring international planned events thought leader Professor Joe Goldblatt. You can listen in to all of that here.

The markets struggled all day over concern about recent financial issues in Europe and in the end the major markets were up only slightly. In other business news on this Monday:
A travel agency goes under and strands thousands of people;
Where are American's on a national health care program;
Apple to return to Austin for manufacturing at least one computer;
More layoffs for General Motors workers;
Music, the law and "Stairway to Heaven".
Also today Laura Kinnard joins us to talk it up about business events in the Greater Des Moines Metro this week. You can hear all of that right here.
And we're talking mental health with Peggy Huppert from NAMI-Iowa. If everything is being blamed on mental health issues why aren't we paying more attention to funding program that will...work? And, that's just the first question. Click here to listen.

The markets opened down today and stayed that way. The big story is oil and the price of oil and if...if a spike in fuel prices could tank the economy. Here is what we've got for you today:
Fear as oil prices surge. Is the economy that fragile?
The United Auto Workers strike General Motors and why;
Regulators are looking at Big Tech and this Amazon story might be why;
Purdue Pharma files for bankruptcy...told ya;
Those stories and a special report about authors Michael Bornstein and Debbie Bornstein Holinstat and their book, "Survivors Club - The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz". Both moving and hopeful and with an Iowa angle. More about the book here.
Those stories and Laura Kinnard joins me to chat it up about business events this week and next here in the Greater Des Moines Metro. You can hear that conversation...here.
