The markets struggled all day over concern about recent financial issues in Europe and in the end the major markets were up only slightly. In other business news on this Monday:
A travel agency goes under and strands thousands of people;
Where are American's on a national health care program;
Apple to return to Austin for manufacturing at least one computer;
More layoffs for General Motors workers;
Music, the law and "Stairway to Heaven".
Also today Laura Kinnard joins us to talk it up about business events in the Greater Des Moines Metro this week. You can hear all of that right here.
And we're talking mental health with Peggy Huppert from NAMI-Iowa. If everything is being blamed on mental health issues why aren't we paying more attention to funding program that will...work? And, that's just the first question. Click here to listen.
Thanks for listening!

Each month I get to sit down with the brains behind Good Milkshake Digital, Phil K. James and talk about Marketing4Business. It's what we do. This month Phil wants to focus on increasing the interaction with consumers and encouraging those who already buy from you...to buy more. It could be restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores...even legal. Finding the thinks your customer wants and then delivering means...everything.

Tuesday Sep 10, 2019
Tuesday Sep 10, 2019
Recently the public was able to view The Forge a training and work center in the rural community of Jefferson, Iowa. The opening of this center has lots of moving parts including Pillar Technology, the city, county and state. There are Silicon Valley folks, Iowa Central Community College, Des Moines Area Community College...it's a big deal. Here, in this brief overview, we chat with the Mayor of Jefferson, Craig Berry, a recipient of a DMACC scholarship, Safora Khan and California Congressman Ro Khanna who had much to do with bringing the parties together. If replicated, this could be a major boost to communities across the U.S.

All signs pointed to a lower open on Wall Street and the Dow did sink early in the day but rebounded as energy stocks took over. That store and more like these wait for you a click away:
The Inverted Yield Curve means...what?
Retail isn't, they say, in major trouble;
Hudson's Bay is selling Lord & Taylor;
Facebook and Political Advertising;
Great Britain to shutter Parlament. No, not kidding.
Those stories and more along with this TWO part conversation with Congresswoman Cindy Axne who represents Iowa's Third Congressional District. In Part One we talk about some of the accomplishments going on in Washington D.C. even as people say "nothing is happening". That and more in this first part.
In Part Two of our conversation with Congresswoman Cindy Axne we talk about jobs, agriculture and more about health care, education...older Iowans and caregiving. Here is Part Two.

The stock market was set to open lower this morning but...SURPRISE at the open the Dow jumped up by over 100 points. Only to edge lower at mid-day. Why? That reason is in the newscast today. Also:
The 401k lawsuits are mounting we share why;
Johnson & Johnson must pay Oklahoma $572 million but the stock goes up;
China says, "Hey, nobody called!" And that is part of the problem;
China and Costco...we think it's a hit;
Boeing and Russia...think lawsuit;
Seeking nominations in Iowa.
Those stories and more today along with a look back at a conversation I had with California Congressman Ro Khanna who was instrumental in bringing high technology to Rural Iowa. That space in Jefferson will open to the public on September 7th. We thought it important to go back to last year and this conversation with the Congressman. Here is that conversation.

It was not a pretty sight today on Wall Street as the Dow sank by over 800 points. Why? You might call it trade by twitter? Here's what we're talking about today, Monday the 5th of August:
China and the dollar...theirs, and maybe ours;
There was one stock sector that was up today...can you guess?
Amazon putting pressure on its merchants to lower prices;
A big bank eyes profits and cuts 4,000 jobs;
The "hot job market" that may not be so...hot;
Numbers and the Governor of Iowa;
Sunday delivery coming but with lower wages;
Newspaper news...Gannett is purchased.
Those stories plus a hyper-local conversation about the small community of Adel, Iowa and it's upcoming Sweet Corn Festival. My guest is the executive director of the Adel Area Partners Chamber, Deb Bengston. Here is that link.
Also Laura Kinnard from DMBizMixer.com joins me to talk it up about business networking events, Co-Working Week and women in business. You can hear that...here.
Thanks for listening!

All the talk is centered around the Fed and a rate cut. But, what might a rate cut mean to you and your family? Good question and we've got some answers...first. Also today:
What is left of Sears dumps on their retired folks;
How would you like to think and then type your thoughts;
Somebody is buying tons of U.S. vehicles;
Malls coming to the aid of retailers;
A marketing tip about Twitter for Business.
Those stories plus a look at employee promotions. Studies say that employees are disengaged in their jobs. So employers attempt to create incentives to produce engagement. However, according to Ro Crosbie the President and CEO of Tero International, those promotions are often causing entitled employees rather than having them be engaged. Here is something that could really turn your thoughts around. To hear that conversation click here.
