Well known for her work covering politics in Iowa for the Des Moines Register Kathie Obradovich has moved on to a new challenge. Kathie is now the Editor-in-Chief for the new Iowa Capital Dispatch which carries the tagline: "Community Journalism for Democracy". Here we talk about that transition, where this idea started, who is in play and how fast it's spreading. Plus we'll chat a bit about Iowa politics and why transparency is so important in these days when trust is such a factor.

Today Wall Street put a bunch of things behind them and focused on job numbers ahead of the official report due out on Friday. Here's what we've got for you today:
Strong employment data an a rumor lifted the markets;
Yesterday a big day for Tesla...today? Not so much;
Macy's is closing and now opening stores;
The trade deficit shrinks;
The Wall Street Report;
Because of a duck, insurance has become fun;
Leadership changes at LinkedIn.
Those stories plus: It's called "market research" you know...what people like and don't like when it comes to products and services. But in this interview there is a major twist. My guest is Robert (Lewy) Lewis the principal at Quester a company doing business with Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies. While there are many market research firms out there Quester is a bit different because they have perfected collecting consumer responses using artificial intelligence. What does that do to the sampling and speed of reporting? We'll let Lewy share that with you.
Thanks for listening!

It's Caucus Day in Iowa and that leads off our news segment. Plus we've got more to share with you like:
Mall owners desperate and what some are doing;
The coronavirus and business;
The Mr. Peanut saga...again;
Ford Finance a profit center;
The Wall Street Report.
Plus: Taxation without Representation where over 700,000 Americans have no voice in Congress. With me, on a return visit to Iowa is "Shadow" Senator Paul Strauss who breaks down what many people say is an injustice. He's in Iowa during the caucus period to promote Statehood for D.C. with Iowan's for D.C. Statehood. Here is that conversation.
Also: Each Monday, even on Caucus Day, I sit down with Laura Kinnard of DMBizMixer to chat it up about business events going on in the Greater Des Moines Metro. Today she's got quite a list from the caucus to some social activities to the upcoming AMA Iowa Experience. Listen here.

700,000 People Taxed But No Representation
Monday Feb 03, 2020
Monday Feb 03, 2020
The numbers are staggering. Today, in Washington D.C. there are over 700,000 people who live there, pay taxes but are denied representation in Congress. That is more people than live in Wyoming or Vermont. With me, on a return visit to Iowa is "Shadow" Senator Paul Strauss who breaks down what many people say is an injustice. He's in Iowa during the caucus period to promote Statehood for D.C. with Iowan's for D.C. Statehood. Here is that conversation.
