The NY Media Empire of Victoria Schneps-Yunis
Monday Apr 15, 2019
Monday Apr 15, 2019
I recently attended the annual meeting of the New York Press Association where I spoke and met loads of interesting, hard-working publishers, editors, reporters and staff at, mostly, community based newspapers. One of the most interesting people has to be Victoria Schneps-Yunis who oversees dozens of newspapers, magazines, websites and now two podcasts...all part of Schneps Media. And, it all started with one newspaper from her kitchen table. I think you'll enjoy this...meet Victoria.

Sunday Apr 07, 2019
Something new this week! We've decided to also podcast our Sunday afternoon program, Insight on Business the News Hour - Week in Review that airs at 2pm Central. That way, if you weren't able to be with us then...you can be with us on your time. Nifty huh? Inside some of the biggest national business news stories of the past week. Go ahead, start you new week by keeping on track of what happened.
Also this week I did something I've never done. I just "riffed" on a piece I did for the New York Press Association called "Five in 24 - Five things any business can do to rebrand themselves and sell more stuff." Why not right. Then, at the tail end of this you'll get a very quick review on what happened on Wall Street last week. To hear that part, just CLICK HERE!
Finally our interview this week was with Paul Allen a co-founder of Ancestry.com. Since leaving that company Paul has started something called SOAR.com that he uses to bring the message of "strengths" to the business world. Inside you'll hear about Ancestry.com and how it grew and then sank and now is growing again (something you didn't get on the radio broadcast on Sunday) you'll also learn about the 34 strengths people have and how knowing yours and your employees and your team's strengths can make all the difference in the world. Paul Allen, the extended interview not heard on KXEL. Listen to that piece right here!
Thanks for coming by and we'll catch you next week on News/Talk 1540 KXEL!

Print Media Dead? Meet Walter Sanchez of NYC
Saturday Apr 06, 2019
Saturday Apr 06, 2019
We hear it nearly every day, "Print media is dead or dying" but is that really the case or are we focused on only one area of print? We're in Albany, NY for the New York Press Association and I sit down with Walter Sanchez who owns BQE Media in New York City. We talk about the success he is having with his hyper-local newspapers, what his focus is, how it connects with consumers and we'll spend some time talking about Amazon leaving NYC. He knows...as he was there and reporting on it...in a hyper-local way.

One thing that we are clear on is that uncertainty is the bane of Wall Street and we saw that again today in what was a crazy, volatile session. On opening the Dow fell by 200 points and then kept heading south...and there is more. Click through for the headlines including:
Oh those markets;
Verizon to cut over 10,000 jobs;
Instagram rolls out a voice message program;
And, the highest paid CEO's are...
Amazon cracking down on what looks to be internal fraud;
And, yes...those markets.
Also today a really remarkable story about how technology giants from Microsoft to LinkedIn are coming to Rural Iowa in an experiment fostered by Piller Technology to create great careers and economic growth in the tiny town of Jefferson. Congressman Ro Khanna of Silicon Valley is with us. Here is that conversation.
Also today Laura Kinnard from Drake University and DMBixMixer.com is in. First she talks about an amazing gathering last week in Las Vegas called Impact Cities and then launches into some business networking and educational events in the Greater Des Moines Metro. Here is that conversation.
Thanks for listening.
