Business News Headlines 29 March 2019
Friday Mar 29, 2019
Friday Mar 29, 2019
It's the final weekday of March 2019 and welcome to the Business News Hour! Inside, and just a click away, you'll hear these stories:
China/U.S. trade talks resume and Wall Street has a party;
The White House wants the Fed to reverse rate increases;
The first day of trading for LYFT was today;
Apple tanks a product before it ever got into your hands;
Workers at an Ohio GM plant are really upset;
What happened on Wall Street and why.
Also today you'll meet Sen. Paul Strauss who, sort of, represents 700,000 U.S. Citizens in the United States but are denied representation in Congress. While Sen. Strauss was elected in 1996 he has yet to cast a vote...because the law denies that simple act. Stunning. I caught up with the Senator as he was making a pitch for D.C. statehood. It's a compelling story and to hear that, click here.
Also, because it's Friday we've got Jeff Pitts from Cityview Magazine with "Stuff to DO in the Metro" this weekend into next week. Listen up...right here.
Thanks for coming by!

It's HappsTV...It's WHAT?
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
I'm old so I remember when there were three newscasts on television each evening: CBS, NBC and ABC. That was it. I also remember when CNN launched and then a host of 24/7 news networks popped up. The evolution of the news business continues with something called "Citizen Journalists" and nobody seems to have captured that as well as Happs.TV. What is Happs? Think "Happening" and it's where citizen journalists share amazing stories all in real time. Here, with me, is Andrew King of Happs.TV to share the story for you. Neat stuff....

The Business of Political Messaging with Mark Langgin of GPS Impact
Wednesday Jan 09, 2019
Wednesday Jan 09, 2019
The way political candidates get their message has vastly changed. Back in the day radio, television and newspapers took the major portion of campaign dollars. Today much of that has changed depending on the demographic of the targeted voter. It's an interesting business and here we visit with Mark Langgin a partner in GPS Impact. We talk about the various platforms, the message creation and the delivery using a host of methods. What's hot and what's not so much. And, as we head into 2020 we figure you might want to learn more about how all this works.

Universal Basic Income and Why It Works with Andrew Yang 2020 Presidential Candidate
Wednesday Dec 19, 2018
Wednesday Dec 19, 2018
Two things you need to know about 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang: 1) He is not a politician and 2) he is wicked smart yet self deprecating at the same time. I sat down with Mr. Yang following a meeting he had with about 20 small business owners who, as he spoke about the Universal Basic Income or $1,000 a month to each person 18 - 65, were very sceptical of the idea. But, within a few minutes the men and women realized it wasn't a "pipe dream" but something that can work for every American and our economy. Got you interested? Click through and meet Andrew Yang:

The Political Swag Business with Marc Daniels
Monday Aug 15, 2016
Monday Aug 15, 2016
Months ago during the cold Iowa Winter our friend Marc Daniels found a niche in which to sell campaign swag. But this was different. Marc chose to flood the field with Jewish head-gear or Yarmulkas or Kippot...head coverings. He made each one and then stood outside of the venues and sold the heck out of them. Now with 84 days remaining he wants to turn his business into "weeding out hate" and planting seeds of peace. An interesting business interview and here is his website for more!

Iowa is awash with presidential candidates and while each has a story they want to tell the real story often lies beneath the sound-bite. Meet Lyle Muller of Iowa Watch a non-profit news organization that has built a reputation on asking tough questions and offering future journalists an opportunity to hone their craft. We met on the campus of Drake University where he was about to visit with some budding journalists.Insight on Business the News Hour with Michael Libbie is the only business broadcast in the Des Moines Metro and a production of Insight Advertising, Marketing & Communications a full service advertising agency based in Des Moines.
