Okoboji Writers Retreat 2.0 with Julie Gammack

Last year when my friend, journalist and entrepreneur, Julie Gammack called to invite me to attend the Okoboji Writers Retreat I was happy to say "Yes!". I figured that maybe 50 writers, speakers, creators might show up.  Uhm...I was wrong. Over 120 folks showed up to listen, learn and get motivated to create. Now it's time for the Okoboji Writers Retreat 2.0 and it's a big deal.  Here Julie will explain what to expect and some of the folks who will be attending.  And she leaves us with a tease of something else she is working on.  Listen in and consider joining us in September. Oh and this is NOT a stuffy event...we have a blast!

Talkin’ Cars - On the Road with Ken Chester

Ken Chester is the founder and host of the nationally known broadcast Roadworthy Drive that deals with all forms of transportation and technology.  Here is a first: We're driving back from an event honoring the 80th Birthday of News/Talk 1540 KXEL (where we are both privileged to be carried) and I asked Ken if we could do the interview as we rolled down the road. Why not?  We're talking about transportation and vehicles and while there may be a law against texting and driving...we couldn't find one about driving and recording. Here is our "mobile conversation":

Jeff Stein of News/Talk 1540 KXEL on Broadcasting, The Spoken Word and Birthdays

Each Sunday it's Insight on Business the News Hour, Week in Review that airs on News Talk 1540 KXEL based in Waterloo, Iowa.  Recently we were asked to join that staff for an 80th Birthday Party for the station.  It was a great adventure being able to mingle with the many listeners who joined us for the afternoon. We went along with Ken Chester from Roadworthy Drive, and had a great time in an open mic conversation with fans of the station.  Here is a conversation with News Director Jeff Stein about the impact of radio, the spoken word, the future of news and a bit about the birthday.  Enjoy...we sure did!
