Living in Harmony - Meet Author Rachelle Chase

This is both a story about history and also hope. Here you'll meet author Rachelle Chase who has written two books about the racially diverse community of Buxton, Iowa. A community that was started by "Corporate America" yet the citizens, both black and white, lived in harmony. The amazing thing is Buxton dates back to 1900 in a time when discrimination and inequality were the order of the day. You'll also learn more about her non-profit Uniting Through History. The Harkin Institute with Joseph Jones

Senator Tom Harkin served in congress for a total of forty years. Ten in the House of Representatives and thirty as a United States Senator. During that time he amassed a great deal of public policy. Prior to his retirement in 2015 Sen. Harkin announced the creation of the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement. Today that organization, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Jones, engages in four core areas of public policy research and development.  The reason it exists is to inform, inspire and "catalyze change on issues of social justice, fairness and opportunity".  Meet Joseph Jones...

Recording the History of Iowa Jews

It's a major effort: "Collect the audio and video history of the Iowa Jewish Community so that these memories will live on for generations." You are about to meet Sandi Yoder the Director of the Iowa Jewish Historical Society and Susan Jellinger the audio/visual assistant who conducts these interviews. So, what is the business angle?  As people migrated into Iowa a great many Jews followed. First as town-to-town peddlers selling everything from cloth to pots and pans. As time went on they set down roots and opened shops and stores. They became bank presidents and insurance executives, doctors, lawyers and the working families that took part in creating what exists today. Click ahead and learn what these very interesting women are contributing to the State of Iowa one interview at a time.
