While our friends at the Greater Des Moines Partnership shares some wonderful stories about the vitality of the Greater Des Moines, Iowa area it is sometimes like a "Tale of Two Cities". We talk about that with Emily Webb the president of the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC). There are significant issues with low wages, food insecurity, high costs of living and DMARC is a mission driven organization that works on those issues and more. Each week I go "Out to Lunch" with an interesting person and you get to come along and listen in to our conversation. This week we're at the Range Grill + Golf with Haley Anderson from Iowa Voters for Companion Animals. This is a group that is lobbying for stronger laws to protect pets from cruelty. Cruelty that we've just heard about where a man stabbed his puppy and threw it in a dumpster because he was, "tired of it". Really? Not only that but Iowa is a leader in what is known as "puppy mills" where bad actors mistreat breeding dogs...Really? Here Haley talks about the legislative effort to secure more protections for family pets. This is not a farm bill this is all about family pets and protection. Come with us as we go Out to Lunch!

It will soon be 50 years since the first Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) and a group of people have banded together to raise money for the RAGBRAI Founders Project a statue of John Karris and Donald Kaul. Here Carl Voss from the committee talks about the effort and the location in a new area of Water Works Park in Des Moines.
