When it a tax...not really a tax? We'll answer that question today with our guest Dr. Tom Ahart the Superintendent of Schools for the Des Moines Public Schools. Here is the quick story. On Tuesday 5 November voters in Des Moines will be asked to approve the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) which will allow the school district to have the necessary dollars for critical maintenance to the 71 buildings in the district plus be able to support new technology for students. All without raising property taxes. Listen in as Dr. Ahart and I discuss and then, I'd urge you to vote YES for PPEL on Tuesday. To learn more here is a link to the website about PPEL.

Monday Jun 17, 2019
When I sat down with Laura Kinnard from Drake, DMACC and DMBizMixer.com to talk about business networking events happening in the Greater Des Moines Metro I didn't expect to go here. For example what platform to use, what calendar, what to share, who to share with....agahhhhh. Sorry for the rant but give a listen to that as well as some top networking/education events happening this week.

Monday Mar 04, 2019
If you are a regular listener to the Business News Hour you know we've had all of the major business organizations on with us decrying the high corporate tax rate paid by businesses in Iowa and demanding that those taxes be cut. We talk about that plus the Research and Development Tax Credit, who it goes to and how many businesses don't pay taxes but get a check from the State of Iowa. You're in for some stunning news....
