The Business News Headlines 14 February 2022

We kick off the business news with a story about crooks and not so much business. Welcome back it is Valentine's Day the 14th of February, 2022 and this is what we've got cooked up for you today:

  • Those bumper stickers and your story for crooks;
  • Which Super Bowl ads won and which lost;
  • Small Businesses, Customers, and Pricing;
  • "Skip the Spouse and Buy a House" no, really;
  • The Wall Street Report;

Also, SBA chief Isabel Guzman was in the Des Moines Metro on a visit with Congresswoman Cindy Axne (D-IA). Her first stop was at Fox Brewing Company to talk up the success of some recent funding. After her visits I spoke with owner Brian Fox about the headwinds he and others in the hospitality industry face. You can hear that conversation right...here.

The Business News Headlines 26 January 2022

We thought, at the opening bell on Wall Street that we'd report the results of a rally. But, that was not to be. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said some hawkish things about interest rates and that drove the markets lower on the day.  Let's kick off with that report:

  • Is a rate hike of .25% too much?
  • Now you can worry about counterfeit stamps;
  • Heating bills are heating up and why;
  • Some strange things coming to McDonald's;
  • More oil coming out of reserves;
  • Still workers not ready to head back to the office;
  • N-95 face masks are getting to retailers but;
  • The Wall Street Report;
  • Podcasting is hot and so is the revenue...ask Amazon.

The Business News Headlines 10 January 2022

Welcome back to another week of the business news headlines and stick around and click through for an interesting conversation about the world of print magazines. Think print is dead?  Not so fast. But, first the news and this is what we've got for you:

  • Two words troubled Wall Street;
  • Billions being spent to enlarge ports;
  • He says he uses a Tesla to mine for crypto;
  • Who's winning? Hybrids or EV's? We'll tell;
  • Some really HOT & SPICY food news;
  • The Wall Street Report;
  • The IRS has just warned us...

How many news stories have you heard or seen that tells us print is dying...or is dead? Plenty...right? But there are outliers especially if that print publication has a niche that consumers want. That is the story behind Little Village a magazine that's been around for twenty years in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Iowa area and is now expanding into the Des Moines market. With me is publisher Genevieve Trainor and advertiser/entrepreneur Mike Draper from RayGun. To listen just click HERE!

Retain or Replace Your Customer - A Marketing Tip

Recently we did an interview with Basel Nassar the founder of Boss Nation, a collection of dog and cat food, treats and gear. During that conversation Nassar talked about relationships and how important those are when he is enlisting stores to carry his products. He said, "My marketing team wants me to spend thousands of dollars in social media outreach, and while that is important, I don't believe it is better than building solid personal relationships with the people who carry our brand."

He is so spot on.

That comment led me to this Marketing Tip and it's about building relationships with those who sell your product and those folks that buy your product. The bottom line is that we all, each of us, want to matter. We want to matter in our personal and our business lives. If we matter (or have a relationship) we are much more inclined to stay with a product or service and often for years.

That is true of startups and established businesses…but sometimes the bigger we get…the more distance we put between our business and our customers.

Click the player to listen to the entire story. It takes only five minutes but it could change how you think about your...customers...you know, the people who matter.
