Insight On Business the News Hour

The Business News Headlines 3 March 2022

While we're not much for numbers this episode of the business news marks the 4,100th such report. You might say we've been doing this for some time.  Today, on this third day of March this is what we've got for you:

  • Retail is experiencing a rush toward unions;
  • Stocks tumbled again today and why;
  • What might you buy if you had the price of a barrel of oil?
  • We think you'll enjoy that piece;
  • This furniture store shutting down all Russian locations;
  • Fewer Americans applying for first time unemployment;
  • A look at the nations economic growth;
  • The Wall Street Report;
  • The cost of a "cheap date" in many cities in the world.

Those stories plus you'll meet Steve Havemann who sits on the National Board of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. A chance meeting allowed this to happen and it's quite the story. Plus, Steve is the grandson of famed speaker and author Joe Batten. That and so much more is right here!

Meet Mike Jones for Mayor of Windsor Heights, Iowa

Living in a small community...even one that is surrounded by the Des Moines Metro...has some advantages. Windsor Heights, Iowa has roughly 5,000 folks living in this "land-locked" city. While small it does have the ability to do some big things and one of those is business development. Here Mike Jones, who is running for Mayor of Windsor Heights sits down to talk about his race, why he decided to run and some thoughts about roads, waterways, taxes, housing, diversity, branding and...yes...business development.  Meet Mike!

A Medical Cannabis Update with Steven Wilson of MedPharm

You would think that now, nearly three years into medical cannabis being legal in the State of Iowa folks might have a better handle on the changes that have been taking place. However, there remains lots of misinformation about what is legal, what works, how it works, how products are made and who can take advantage of them. Here returning guest Steven Wilson the dispensary manager for MedPharm sits down to give us the real story and, perhaps, where all of this may go. Learn more about Iowa's Newest Crop...

The markets struggled all day and in the end the Dow missed making it back to the flat-line. It's the business news headlines for Thursday the 24th day of October. And, we've got a shorter segment today because we've got a rare two-part interview with the current Mayor of the City of Des Moines, Iowa, Frank Cownie.  In the news:

Those stories plus a two-part long form interview with Mayor Frank Cownie.  Mayor Cownie has served the city of Des Moines, Iowa for 16 years and he wants another four. I'll ask him why voters should reward him for that. Plus we'll talk about promises made and he says...kept. Here is Part One

Then in Part Two we'll talk about the water issue that impacts not only Des Moines but also the surrounding communities that buy water from the Des Moines Water Works. We'll also get into flooding, climate change and more.  Here is Part Two.
