The Business News Headlines 14 May 2021

The end of another business week and Wall Street had a day...but not enough to make it a positive week. Also, because it's Friday we've got Jeff Pitts in to go hyper-local on you and chat it up about Stuff to DO in the Greater Des Moines Metro.  But first, the news:

The Business News Headlines 12 May 2021

It's been a nightmare on Wall Street now for three days and the inflation numbers today really drove the markets down. Also today we've got an interesting conversation about the world of air guitar competition. No, really! And if you think this is too weird know that ESPN will, this summer, air the competition. You'll meet The Flying Finn in just a bit. In the news:

  • Consumer prices shot up in April;
  • The impact on Wall Street;
  • Gasoline hording and rising prices;
  • Hertz accepted a buy-out and it's a story;
  • The Wall Street Report;
  • Rethinking "low skilled workers".

For the interview you'll meet Andrew Finn who goes by his stage name in the air guitar world as "The Flying Finn".  Andrew is an international star and he's in to chat it up about this amazing sport, ESPN and international competition. To listen in click here.

The Air Guitar World with The Flying Finn

Over the years we've interviewed hundreds of people from entrepreneurs and their startups to political folks and seasoned business people. This conversation is a...first. Here you will meet an international star from the world of air guitar competition. You read that correctly. Andrew Finn is "The Flying Finn"Andrew has been performing for 16 years and recently on the international stage in (of course) Finland! And, in case you think this is a "one off", ESPN is slated to showcase the world of air guitar competition this summer. Here is a link to a video from his competition in Finland.  I sat down with Andrew to learn more and it's quite the story.

Transgender Youth, Sports and Business with Keenan Crow

Recently Governor Kim Reynolds (R-IA) surprised even members of her own party when she, on Fox News, announced she wanted a bill on her desk to deal with keeping transgender youth from participating in sports. The bill would make sure kids who self-identify their gender are not allowed in sporting activities that do not match the sex of their birth. She says it is about "fairness".  Meanwhile business groups in Iowa are clamoring for highly skilled and motivated workers. We think there is a link. With me is Keenan Crow the Director of Policy and Advocacy for One Iowa. To learn more about this issue from One Iowa here is yet another link from One Iowa Action - Let Them Play.
