If you remember we carried a story this past week about the danger in taking the United States Postal Service private. That concern just got a reality check as David Steiner, a former CEO of the nation’s largest waste management company who currently serves on the FedEx board of directors, is poised to take over control of the U.S. Postal Service. Might this be the first shoe to fall? This is the Business News Headlines for Friday the 9th day of May, thanks for being with us. In other news, talks between the U.S. and China over trade is as confusing as most things coming from Washington. US Markets closed mixed today. Folks in Chicago are having some good fun celebrating native son Pope Leo the 14th. The Wall Street Report and yet another radar outage in Newark. Meanwhile the FAA has just dropped a 20 billion dollar plan to fix issues just like that. And because the possible privatization of the United State Postal Service is once again top of mind…we’re bringing back Herb Copley to offer up what might happened should the Trump administration choose to go private with the USPS. Ready? Let’s go.

Hoping to Build a New Temple - The Sikh Faith with Baljit Verdi
Tuesday Jul 16, 2024
Tuesday Jul 16, 2024
Not long ago I was asked by some friends to help members of the Sikh faith in their effort to build a new temple in Urbandale, Iowa. While this may seem like a hyper-local story we found the topic to be quite interesting. My guest is Baljit Singh Verdi one of the leaders of the group. While they do have a temple (Gurudwara) in West Des Moines their congregation is growing and they envision the new facility to also become a community center which would benefit all of Urbandale. Meet my newest friend Baljit.
Thanks for being here!

Non-Visible Disabilities and the Fear of Flying
Wednesday May 01, 2024
Wednesday May 01, 2024
It was another of those chance meetings. I was sitting in the lobby of the Hotel Fort Des Moines visiting with Jenny Schuetz about our scheduled interview when a man stepped up and said, "Excuse me, but I heard you talking about the interview maybe we could do a segment? I help people with non-visible disabilities better enjoy air travel by helping them experience what it's like in an aircraft." And so I met Jonathan Sutter who founded TravelingWiki.com an organization that encourages airports to install rooms that can help folks with autism and other non-visible disabilities become less fearful of flying. I learned much from Johnathan and my guess is that you will too.

If you want to listen to that piece you can hear it here. Also, you can hook up with us all day on Twitter or "X" @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Facebook? Sure were there too.
