Insight On Business the News Hour

Jeff Stein of News/Talk 1540 KXEL on Broadcasting, The Spoken Word and Birthdays

Each Sunday it's Insight on Business the News Hour, Week in Review that airs on News Talk 1540 KXEL based in Waterloo, Iowa.  Recently we were asked to join that staff for an 80th Birthday Party for the station.  It was a great adventure being able to mingle with the many listeners who joined us for the afternoon. We went along with Ken Chester from Roadworthy Drive, and had a great time in an open mic conversation with fans of the station.  Here is a conversation with News Director Jeff Stein about the impact of radio, the spoken word, the future of news and a bit about the birthday.  Enjoy...we sure did!

The Business News Headlines 22 July 2022

Once again, the worry is in when it comes to social media and advertising revenue.  It’s the business news headlines for Friday the 22nd day of July…thanks for being with us. Before we get into the news a note about recessions and advertising/marketing. Advertisers who cut back on their ad spends during tough economic times lose market share while those who continue gain.   • "Nobody want to work anymore!" The myth;
  • Cannabis news from the U.S.;
  • Cannabis news from Canada;
  • Struggling to pay bills? You are not alone;
  • The Wall Street Report;

Retain or Replace Your Customer - A Marketing Tip

Recently we did an interview with Basel Nassar the founder of Boss Nation, a collection of dog and cat food, treats and gear. During that conversation Nassar talked about relationships and how important those are when he is enlisting stores to carry his products. He said, "My marketing team wants me to spend thousands of dollars in social media outreach, and while that is important, I don't believe it is better than building solid personal relationships with the people who carry our brand."

He is so spot on.

That comment led me to this Marketing Tip and it's about building relationships with those who sell your product and those folks that buy your product. The bottom line is that we all, each of us, want to matter. We want to matter in our personal and our business lives. If we matter (or have a relationship) we are much more inclined to stay with a product or service and often for years.

That is true of startups and established businesses…but sometimes the bigger we get…the more distance we put between our business and our customers.

Click the player to listen to the entire story. It takes only five minutes but it could change how you think about your...customers...you know, the people who matter.
