We're back after being on assignment for the past several days. We were covering the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association annual Summer Board Meeting which took us on quite a journey.  About 35 people from around the country were in Des Moines, Iowa for the event and they got to visit the World Food Prize Headquarters as well as the Iowa State Capital, a 100 acre salvage yard in Colfax, Iowa and see an Iowa Cubs baseball game. The final report is they had a great time and we'll be bringing you several conversations yet this week. Hoping to Build a New Temple - The Sikh Faith with Baljit Verdi

Not long ago I was asked by some friends to help members of the Sikh faith in their effort to build a new temple in Urbandale, Iowa. While this may seem like a hyper-local story we found the topic to be quite interesting.  My guest is Baljit Singh Verdi one of the leaders of the group. While they do have a temple (Gurudwara) in West Des Moines their congregation is growing and they envision the new facility to also become a community center which would benefit all of Urbandale.  Meet my newest friend Baljit.

The Business News Headlines and Building a new Sikh Temple in Urbandale

Welcome to the VERY LATE edition of the Business News Headlines.  Late because we had tornado activity in the Greater Des Moines Metro.  Along with the business news headlines you'll hear from Baljit Singh Virdi one of the organizers of an effort to build a new Sikh Temple (Gurudwara) in Urbandale, Iowa.  While they have an aging facility in West Des Moines the goal here is to meet their expanding membership and have a building that can also serve as a community center for everyone and not just members of the Sikh faith. Meet Dr. Rachelle Keck of Grand View University

Recently at our recording booth during the Central Iowa Business Conference hosted by the Urbandale, Iowa Chamber a woman was walking toward us and I commented, "Nice shoes!".  She stopped, came over to the microphones to say, thank you. Turns out she is the president of Grand View University. I asked her if we might record a conversation and, so, we did. What a delightful and talented individual leading a university with roughly 2,000 students near the heart of Des Moines.  You'll also learn about the school's close tie to...Denmark.  Meet Dr. Rachelle Keck.
