The Black & Brown Business Summit
Tuesday Mar 29, 2022
Tuesday Mar 29, 2022
The Black & Brown Business Summit is happening April 20 & 21. This is an opportunity for established businesses and startups to learn wealth building techniques, social media skills, real estate, quitting a job to move on and so much more. Here I sit down with Terrence Thames a co-organizer of the event. I promise that you'll learn much about not only the summit but also the barriers so many folks run into as they deal with systematic bias. To register for this ground-breaking event just follow this link to the West Des Moines Chamber and remember while an Iowa Chamber is sponsoring this...it truly is a global effort.

We're going to take you on a journey that spans sixty-one years and do a deep dive into a family owned company that has become a multi-national giant. Here you'll learn about the very humble beginnings of Kemin Industries as the Nelson Family created (in their modest home) something called, Pig Lure to aid the world of pork production. Now, sixty-one years later, Kemin does business world-wide creating products that support the lives of pets to production animals while always keeping their mission centered on servant leadership. With me is Lauren Burt the global communications director who will help you better understand what the past two years have been like and what the company hopes to bring to the world...tomorrow.

Making a Global Difference - The Society of St. Vincent DePaul
Thursday Mar 03, 2022
Thursday Mar 03, 2022
They say that being "in the moment" is important because you never know what opportunity might pop up. That is exactly what happened when I answered an email sent to our city by Steve Havemann from the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. Several years ago I spoke to a local chamber and met a volunteer of the organization so I was somewhat aware of what they do...but wanted more. Steve is the Executive Director of the Des Moines Society and also sits on the national board so we take a broad view of their work and then talk about his famous grandfather, Joe D. Batten the author of the amazing book "Tough Minded Leadership" and others. Here is a link to those books...and the final one co-written by Steve. What a great story from all sides and grateful I was paying attention.
