Water, Politics, Business - Des Moines Water Works

We've been doing the Business News Hour for a long time. Each weekday for nearly four years we've reported on the business news of the nation, region and the Greater Des Moines Metro. During that time we have watched the convergence of business and politics and that has changed the conversation. This interview is an example of that. Bill Stowe, the CEO of the Des Moines Water Works has been described as "The most hated man in Iowa" and as a "Moses standing up for the people against special interests". According to the Des Moines Water Works the Iowa Legislature, in a purely political move, is seeking to dismantle the Des Moines Water Works yet over 68% of the people served wish to preserve the business...and in the end it is a business. We talk about that, the drainage district lawsuit, polluted water, Flint, Michigan and more in this extended interview.

Pedal Off the Pounds with the Des Moines Cycle Club

It's the fifth year for Pedal Off the Pounds a program of the Des Moines Cycle Club. The program was designed to get people, who may not have ridden a bicycle for years, back on a bike and to help them lose weight in the process. Think "Biggest Loser" but nobody gets kicked off the ranch. Here POTP leader Marty Hupp joins the 2016 winner Linda Gilpin in talking up the program that has an informational meeting on 23 March for the 2017 Season of POTP!

Business, Stress and Des Moines

Last week we had a national story about how, in a survey by Accountemps, the Des Moines Metro is tied with Boston as the second most stressed out city in the nation. We got beat out by Salt Lake City. What? The article went on to talk about stress, productivity and business. Movies, Business, Dogs and Dog Food with Burt Ward

We catch up with Burt Ward who played Robin in the 1960's Batman series. In this wide ranging interview we talk about the new Warner Brothers animated feature with Robin, Adam West and Julie Newmar and he gives a preview of the next movie with William Shatner as the villain "Two Face".  We then talk about his passion of rescuing very large dogs and how that drove he and his wife Tracy to create Gentle Giant Rescue and Gentle Giant dog food that Burt says can extend the life of your very best friend...it's a "fat thing".
