Reimagine DART - Out to Lunch with Amanda Wanke

Every so often we go Out to Lunch and cover, in depth, an issue critical to so many. Today we're Out to Lunch with Amanda Wanke the CEO of the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority better known as DART.  Over the past several months DART has taken on the challenge of reimaging public transit in light of budget cuts. Here we talk about the economic development and worker development importance of public transit. The effort to provide both coverage and enhance ridership for DART users, the new "bus garage" being built.  Why is DART doing that and where is the funding coming from.  Our host for Out to Lunch was Chef Lynn Pritchard from Table 128 at Gray's Landing in Des Moines.  Now, let's go Out to Lunch with Amanda!

My search led me to Catherine Grey who has been working with Medicaid in Iowa for 34 years due to the condition of her son, John.  Here she talks about the challenges of applying, over and over and over again. The amount of money the private Managed Care Organization are receiving from Iowa. St. Mark's Neighborhood Fridge with Darryl Ahnemann

I've had the pleasure to know Darryl Ahnemann for several years.  His business is helping non-profits raise much needed money.  He has been in that role for decades. Recently he contacted me to ask about connecting with a religious community in the Greater Des Moines Metro and told me about a program he has been working with other volunteers. It is an amazing story about a food rescue just a year old but breaking new ground every day.  It's the St. Marks Neighborhood Fridge which is open 24/7 for people who are food insecure.  And while this may sound like a hyper-local story we think it’s something that your community could start.  Let’s go!
