The Business News Headlines and a Workers Memorial 29 April 2024
Monday Apr 29, 2024
Monday Apr 29, 2024
Welcome to the Monday Edition of the Business News Headlines. Glad you are with us. Over the past week labor unions across Iowa have been holding Worker Memorials to remember the men and women who were killed on or at the job site this past year. Today the South Central Iowa Federation of Labor AFL/CIO held such a memorial at the Iowa State Capital. I have been to many of these events over the years but never one where so many names were read. Today seventy-three individuals who are now gone but not forgotten were remembered. I was struck by that huge number and at the ages of some of the deceased. Following the event I sat down with Paula Martinez the President of the local union and asked..."Why?". It was an emotional event for many of us... Here are the other stories we have for you today:
Driverless Semi-Trucks? Yep, coming soon;
Older affluent Americans are driving the economy...but;
Recent airline stories have prompted Congress to act;
Chipotle employees may again eat...chicken;
The Supreme Court will take up an unusual case;
The Wall Street Report;
Remembering the 73 Iowans with Paula Martinez.

Tuesday Apr 09, 2024
We kick things off today with a focus on a lackluster performance on Wall Street as investors become more and more anxious about the impending inflation report due out tomorrow. For the interview we'll be talking to real estate associate broker Wayde Burkhart about the housing industry and then take a deep dive into the history of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce now known at JCI. Wayde is helping oversee a six state regional meeting of JCI Senators who will converge on Des Moines April 19 - 21. And, yes, we name...names. Also if you want to reach us on social media and if you're on Threads you can find us @Insight_On_Business. And you can hook up with us all day on Twitter or "X" @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Facebook? Sure were there too. Here's what we've got for you today:
Investors are spooked about the upcoming inflation report;
Laid off workers are finding a new career in creating...content;
A big time for theater owners in Las Vegas and what they are saying;
Get ready another price jump for first class letters;
Tesla stock continues to slide. Will the company recover?
The Wall Street Report;
And, which states have the most million dollar homes?
For the interview you'll hear from my old friend Wayde Burkhart who is not only a realtor (and we do talk about the market) but also a JCI Senator #63877. We're talking about some Junior Chamber of Commerce memories and about an upcoming event being held in Des Moines April 19 - 21. It's a fun walk down memory land and to listen to our conversation click THIS LINK.

The Iowa JCI Senate with Wayde Burkhart
Tuesday Apr 09, 2024
Tuesday Apr 09, 2024
No matter where you are on the planet you have heard about the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce which had its early beginnings way back in 1915 when Henry Giessenbier Jr. along with 31 other young men formed Young Men’s Progressive Association (YMPCA) at the Mission Inn located in their hometown of St. Louis. Then, a year later, he YMPCA became known as the Junior Citizens and soon the Junior Chamber of Commerce, after affiliating with the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. The organization has a long and storied history of helping young men and young women become true leaders in their community, state and nation. Here I sit down with JCI Senator #63877 Wayde Burkhart and chat it up about the real estate market as well as an upcoming Region VI meeting which involves six states coming to Des Moines on April 19 - 21. This was so much fun remembering and I'll let you join us for a bit.

The Story of Glam and Beautiful Young Women with Amy Rinnels
Wednesday Apr 03, 2024
Wednesday Apr 03, 2024
For twenty-seven years Amy Rinnels has had the pleasure of helping young women as they head toward Prom Season. This is a remarkable story about Glam that started from a rocky beginning as a bridal shop to what has now become the "go-to" location for high-end dresses. I wouldn't have known about this without my granddaughter Jovie, who works at Glam, and told me about the mission of the store. On my first visit I saw vehicles from Kansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and yes, Iowa. And, one other thing Amy told me has to do with the future of our nation and the young people she has met over the years. You are going to love this conversation!

Welcome to the Tuesday Edition of the Business News Headlines. We're covering everything from aircraft manufacturing to Super Bowl ads that now cost $7 million for thirty-seconds of airtime. If you can't understand the caller why...call? Sure it might cost more but we bet you'll sell more. End of rant and if you want to reach us on social media and if you're on Threads you can find us @Insight_On_Business. And you can hook up with us all day on Twitter or "X" @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Facebook? Sure were there too. Here's what we've got for you today:

It's the final day of Cattle Con 2024 here in Orlando. This is the annual meeting of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and we talked to a host of producers, and those who sell products and services to the beef cattle industry. Here is a stunning fact: Only 2% of the U.S. population is involved in agriculture. One-hundred years ago 25% of the population farmed and ranched. We have become a nation mostly ignorant how food is produced...and, according to NCBA, that can be a danger. In the weeks ahead we'll share some of what we heard. I promise it it will be interesting. Meanwhile, if you want to reach us on social media and if you're on Threads you can find us @Insight_On_Business. And you can hook up with us all day on Twitter or "X" @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Facebook? Sure were there too. Here's what we've got for you today:
HUGE employment numbers for January;
Tesla to recall 2.2 million vehicles sold in the U.S.
The number of news/journalist jobs cut is stunning;
And what that means to you for local news;
A new student loan forgiveness program rolls out;
Big news from the USDA for small cattle producers;
The Fall of 23 and Me;
Seven ways for you to save money in 2024.

A brand new week and the Business News Headlines for Monday the 29th day of January. That means that Wednesday is a travel day so we'll likely be late with the business news headlines. We shall see. Meanwhile today we kick things off talking about the Central Bank and get into a story about Taylor Swift. And, don't miss the conversation we had with author and speaker Garrison Wynn. Good stuff friends! If you want to reach us on social media and if you're on Threads you can find us @Insight_On_Business. And you can hook up with us all day on Twitter or "X" @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Facebook? Sure were there too. Here's what we've got for you today:

I was able to see him work when we were covering a national event in San Diego last week and he offered up a master class on leadership, influencing and generational differences in the workplace. We sat down to chat about his work and comedy and you can hear that conversation by clicking on this link.

Coming up today some of the big business news headlines of the day along with a look at what happened on Wall Street. In addition, if you like history, you are in for an amazing conversation that comes from West Des Moines, Iowa. When we saw the presser we though it looked interesting but was really hyper-local. Were we...wrong. My guest is Gale Brubaker from the West Des Moines Historical Society and the story she weaves has its roots in the Abolitionist Movement of the 1800's and she even drops the name of John Brown. Good stuff! Also if you want to reach us on social media and if you're on Threads you can find us @Insight_On_Business. And you can hook up with us all day on Twitter or "X" @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Facebook? Sure were there too. Here's what we've got for you today:
It's looking serious for Boeing;
The future of AI may be in the hands of the court;
Speaking of legal issues we have an NRA update;
A story from our "You Can't Make This Stuff Up Department";
The World Bank sees economic troubles for the global economy;
The Wall Street Report;
More layoff news from Unity of San Francisco.
For the interview the astonishing story about the Jordan Family, a house built in 1850 that was part of the Underground Railroad and visits by abolitionist John Brown. I can tell you this is quite an amazing conversation with Gale Brubaker of the West Des Moines, Iowa Historical Society. To listen click this link.
