Each year the Zeta Kappa Lambda Educational Foundation, the Des Moines arm of Alpha Phi Alpha, holds the Black and Gold Ball which honors scholarship students whom the foundation assists. The local president of Alpha Phi Alpha is Robert Smith who came by the talk about the organization and the mission of sending kids to college.
