Insight On Business the News Hour

The Business News Headlines & More 16 September 2019

The markets opened down today and stayed that way. The big story is oil and the price of oil and if...if a spike in fuel prices could tank the economy. Here is what we've got for you today:

  • Fear as oil prices surge. Is the economy that fragile?
  • The United Auto Workers strike General Motors and why;
  • Regulators are looking at Big Tech and this Amazon story might be why;
  • Purdue Pharma files for bankruptcy...told ya;

Those stories and a special report about authors Michael Bornstein and Debbie Bornstein Holinstat and their book, "Survivors Club - The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz". Both moving and hopeful and with an Iowa angle. More about the book here

Those stories and Laura Kinnard joins me to chat it up about business events this week and next here in the Greater Des Moines Metro. You can hear that conversation...here

Des Moines, Iowa & Poverty Part One

In this, the first of two parts of an interview with Elizabeth Buck, President of the United Way of Central Iowa and Seth Johnson program director for OpportUNITY we lay out several significant issues impacting a number of Iowans in the Greater Des Moines Metro. From housing to child care to transportation to wages...all within the shadow of what many of us see as a thriving community. We usually don't extend our interviews into two parts but, because so much is here...we thought it better to split up our conversation. Here is Part One.

The Business News Headlines and More 13 August 2019

All the overnight signs pointed to a down open on Wall Street...but NOPE not today. A strong opening caused by some changes in the U.S. China trade war and some of that had to do with...toys. Thanks for joining us..here's what's on tap:

  • The U.S. and China spat took a breather today;
  • Being rich is...good;
  • Got a Funko-Pop?  Don't know? It's a story;

Those stories plus a conversation about the upcoming Central Iowa Business Conference with Todd McDonald and Leisa Fox. This is the third year for the event and we've given it the hashtag of #CIBC19 because, well, nobody else has that we can find. Listen to that conversation here.
