Massive Economic Impact from Rivers and Streams

Over the past decade old abandoned rail lines have been repurposed to become bicycle trails for the thousands of people who enjoy riding, sometimes, miles each week. That has resulted in some major economic development as restaurants, bars, ice cream joints and retailers open shops along those trails. Now another long forgotten asset is going to be used to impact business. My guest is Stephanie Oppel from ICON or the Iowa Confluence Water Trails group who is in to share with us that groups vision for the future. In addition, creating water activity should also help push along efforts of cleaning up rivers, streams and lakes from pollutants. A win/win.  Meet Stephanie:

From Standup to Serious Business meet Garrison Wynn

Recently while covering the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association (NTPDA) Annual Conference and Trade Show held, this year, in San Diego I was able to take in a presentation by author and speaker Garrison Wynn. He offered those who attended a master class on leadership, influencing people and generational differences in the workplace. Garrison started his stage career as a standup comic but now, for 28 years, he speaks on a number of serious business topics but you can see a bit of that standup sneak through.  We talked about that and more in this conversation. McKee, Voorhees & Sease - 100 Years of Service

This happens to us all the time. Someone sends out a press release, and we read them all, but far too often the story is so hyper-local that it doesn't match our national newscast goals. This presser was about a Des Moines, Iowa based law firm that is celebrating 100 years doing patent law. About five lines in we saw that McKee, Voorhees & Sease (MVS) has clients in 160 countries in areas of technology, industries, pharmaceuticals and many more. All of a sudden this is no hyper-local story and we signed on.  Here you will meet Luke Mohrhauser the Managing Partner of MVS with what, we thought, was a brilliant conversation about a host of issues surrounding protecting intellectual property, threats, copywrite infringement and more. West Des Moines Historical Society with Gale Brubaker

When we saw the presser about the West Des Moines Historical Society we thought this would be a very hyper-local story but it looked interesting and who doesn't want to help a non-profit reach a financial goal. Were we surprised, no shocked, that this turned out to be a national if not global story. Here you will meet Gale Brubaker a remarkable women who does just about everything for this group.  Her knowledge base is amazing and what she says about the history of the Jordan House, it's first occupants and their dedication to abolishing slavery is remarkable. In addition Gail drops a  serious name: abolitionist John Brown. Finally one thing she said has stuck with me since doing this interview, "We all make history everyday.
