The Business News Headlines 21 June 2022

Like many, we took yesterday off due to the national holiday of Juneteenth and recovered a bit from a fantastic Father's Day.  And...a couple of days off seemed to do Wall Street some good as well. Before we get there a reminder that you can follow along with us all day on Twitter @IOB_NewsHour and on Instagram. Here is what we've got for you today:

  • No News - Good News?

A Rare Business Model for the Media - Liz Kennedy from The Gazette

Nothing ever happens by accident. I'm reviewing interview notes during EntreFest held this year in Iowa City, Iowa when a woman sees my press badge. Turns out Liz Kennedy is in charge of digital media for The Cedar Rapids Gazette. That led to this conversation about Iowa Ideas a multi day virtual event covering significant health issues impacting Iowans. (Yes, you can attend!) There is a shocking story about who owns the Gazette (which sheds new light on how they cover the news) and how badly they want your ideas and input. And, if that's not enough there is a fall (October 13-14) Iowa Ideas virtual event with the keynote being none other than the famous Simon Estes. So much to unpack here...enjoy. I sure did!

The Harkin Institute with Joseph Jones

Senator Tom Harkin served in congress for a total of forty years. Ten in the House of Representatives and thirty as a United States Senator. During that time he amassed a great deal of public policy. Prior to his retirement in 2015 Sen. Harkin announced the creation of the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement. Dr. Glenn Hurst on Rural America
