Students Should Be Seen and Heard

As legislators and school boards and teachers make decisions about education...who listens to the students? That is the question on the minds of the Iowa Student Learning Institute...bet you didn't know there was one. Here we talk with the ISLI president Justin Sindelar and member Taylor Larick about what they think should happen and about the upcoming Student Voice Rally scheduled for April 11. Good stuff here from two very mature and well spoken young people.

The Waukee Trail Head…Art Project

Don't let the name fool you.  This is not hanging copies of masterpieces along the Raccoon River Valley Trail but it is pure economic development.  We made welcome Jim Miller and Randy Jensen to the studio to give us an update on the Waukee Trailhead Art Project and what it means to not only Waukee but also the other 14 communities along the trail.

From Disaster to a Growing Business

Proving, yet again, that necessity is the "Mother of Invention" MMA fighter Joe Brammer found himself out of work, broke, his stuff back in San Diego stolen and a car that "just quit".  What to do?  Start a business that rolled into the very successful Elite Edge Gym and a book deal that saw his first effort climb to the top of Amazon.com's best seller list.  Oh and he's opening a new facility in Ankeny...  It's quite a story:

Chris Abbott on the Full Service Restaurant in Waukee

Yes, there are many full service restaurants in the Des Moines Metro but...only three HyVee Market Grille full service restaurants. We know, "A restaurant in a grocery store?" But, it seems to work and today we made welcome Chris Abbott who started working for HyVee when he was 14 and now runs the Waukee HyVee Market Grille.  We had a bunch of questions:

HyVee and the Market Grille with Bret Peterson

When the West Des Moines based grocery store chain started putting in a full service restaurant into their flagship store in Urbandale we thought that was interesting.  Today we were visited by Bret Peterson of the Urbandale HyVee to talk about the Market Grille and the expansion into stores based in Ankeny and Waukee. So, why get into the business of a "sit-down" restaurant and what's next? Here's Bret:

A Visual Anchor for Waukee

The project has its roots in economic development by increasing the visibility of the Raccoon River Valley Trail and creating a gathering point in the rapidly growing community of Waukee, Iowa. David Dahlquist, Jim Miller and Cooper Riley visited the IOB Studios to talk about the million dollar pergola that, they say, will create a landmark destination much the same as the High Trestle Bridge between Madrid and Woodward.  An interesting conversation.
