Four Virtues for Business and Personal Life

This week Sister Simone Campbell, you may remember her from Nuns On The Bus, was in Des Moines speaking on behalf of Progress Iowa. We caught up with her following her address to learn more about what she calls The Four Virtues. We thought, given the state of so much in our country, this is worth of sharing with you. Here from NETWORK Lobby is Sister Campbell...

EchoLight Cinema with Toni Lampley

Last month we were made aware of something called EchoLight Cinemas. We asked around and found that it is an evangelical group that asks churches to become a "movie theater" and show high quality films with a religious bent. Toni Lampley is the contact here in Iowa.  We asked her to come by and help us better understand what's the story.

The National Prayer Breakfast with Desmund Adams

Over the past week there has been a fire-storm over what the president said or did not say at the National Prayer Breakfast.  We don't do politics here at the Business News Hour but when we learned that our friend and regular contributor Desmund Adams was there we asked him to come and tell us what he experience.  Here is that conversation:

We made welcome Rev. Chris Olkiewicz the lead pastor of the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church and we talked about many things from remodeling to immigrant children. Oh, and how somebody with a Polish name became a Lutheran.  Enjoy!

Non-Christians and Christmas

It's the Christmas Day Special from The News Hour.  We hope you and your family had a wonderful celebration.

What about those people who don't celebrate the religious portion of December 25th?  Today we visited with three of them.  Our first guest is "Realist" Bruce Stone.  He doesn't have much time for religion of any form.  Then we asked our friend Mark Finkelstein from the Jewish Community Relations Commission to talk about Jews and Christmas...and  is it true Jews celebrate with Chinese and a movie?  And then our newest friend Baljit Singh from the Sikh Temple of Des Moines. How does he, and his family, mark the day.

An interesting discussion...  Thanks for coming by for a listen.

Christmas Eve Traditions 24 December 2013

It's Christmas Eve at The News Hour and we thought it might be interesting to listen to various Christmas Traditions from several Des Moines religious leaders along with some music of the season.

Leading off is Father Basil Hickman from the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George and the traditions of his branch of Christianity.  Then we listen to Rev. Ryan Arnold from the First Christian Church about his bringing up and his congregational celebration of music for Christmas.  We close with Father Mark Owusu from St. Catherine of Siena on the Drake Campus.  An interesting journey for this man from Ghana and he talks about the celebration there and...here.

Insight on Business the News Hour is heard Monday - Friday from 5PM to 6PM on 1350-KRNT, Des Moines.  Thanks for listening and Merry Christmas.
