This is an extended interview with Burt Ward who played Robin the the still popular television program Batman. Here we talk about his two passions in life: His wife Tracy and their joint mission of saving, caring and lengthening the lives of...dogs. Burt was in Sioux City, Iowa to tour the Consumers Supply plant where his, Gentle Giants Dog Food is made. We sat down to talk about giving dogs the miracle of a longer more active life. Imagine Great Danes living to be 27 years old and active. And, yes, we talk about Adam West and how Burt got the part of Robin. But, if you have a "fur kid", please spend some time and listen to one of the most kind people on the planet...meet Burt Ward.

Earlier in the week we had a conversation with Melodie Porter Smith from Panora PETS and we referenced the Stuart Veterinary Clinic. We thought it might be interesting to visit with Dr. Megan Hardy one of the Vets on staff at the clinic. What's it like in her business? We asked.
The group is called Panora PETS (Protect Even the Strays) a non-profit that is very busy in the area of pet rescues. We recently adopted little Yofi a tiny pup who was, we believe, abused or at best neglected as she was burned with boiling water. Melodie is seeing an increase in abuse cases and is attempting to get the Iowa Legislature to act. That story and more about the upcoming Furball. Good stuff here!
A shocking story about puppy mills in Iowa with Mary LaHay from Iowa Voters for Companion Animals. Learn what she has been working toward, the inhumane conditions at puppy mills and why the Iowa Legislature has failed to respond. It is...shocking really that Iowa ranks second from the bottom of responsible states in the nation...just ahead of Mississippi.
We've had such a positive experience with the animal rescue center called Panora PETS. Michael has three dogs from this volunteer rescue. We chat about that and then about the horror of dog fighting in Iowa. Something we were shocked to learn is happening with regularity. Here is Melodie Smith who rescued Sarge a Bait Dog...no really.
This is the second part of our interview with professional dog trainer Joel Silverman. Here we talk about training methods, what some folks get and others need to understand. We also spend some time talking about his books and career on television. Good stuff with Joel:
Our guest, Joel Silverman, has had an amazing career that started at Sea World and has moved across the professional training world. We discuss those early days and his moving to television where he trained animals. This is part one of two parts. Enjoy the conversation!
As she does each Friday we're joined by Sheryl Tessier from Eat, Play, Love Des Moines. Loads of fun stuff to do and see and experience this weekend and beyond.
For 16 years the Great Iowa Pet Expo has been coming to Des Moines. Today we chat with the founder of the event, Kathy Erickson and this year's headliner: author, actor, trainer, Joel Silverman. We talk about the expo and the personality of...dogs. Have a listen!
