The Affordable Housing Battle in Urbandale, Iowa

Everybody talks about it. "It" is affordable housing. There is a direct link between communities being able to provide affordable living conditions and economic development. Affordable housing is on the short list of the goals espoused by the Greater Des Moines Partnership as well as one of the communities in this story. It's a story I stumbled on early this week and it has to do with the Merle Hay Mall, Anawim Housing and the City of Urbandale.  Let's get started....

DART, Transportation, Road Diets and the Western Suburbs

This week there was a celebration in Windsor Heights to mark what could be a model for other communities around Des Moines. The Des Moines Area Rapid Transit (DART) partnered with the Windsor Heights Chamber to say thank you to the players in the new Transit Hub which is under construction between the Apple Valley Shopping Center and Sam's Club. I spoke with Amanda Wanke, External Affairs Officer for DART, Zac Bales-Henry, City Council of Windsor Heights and Josh Mandelbaum from the Des Moines City Council.
