Insight On Business the News Hour

The Business News Headlines 4 April 2019

We're in New York for the New York Press Association Spring Convention...but, we're still workin'.  Today:

  • Wall Street stutters as we wait for a U.S./China trade deal;
  • The Bezos divorce is done..who got..what...we'll tell;
  • The median price of a U.S. home hit a record today;
  • Tesla stock tanked;
  • Motel 6 settled a lawsuit and at it's core was immigration;
  • Target employees to get a raise;
  • What happened and why on Wall Street.

Those stories and our guest for The Interview is Paul Allen. Paul was one of the original founders of Ancestry.com and now is the founder of something called SOAR.com. We'll be talking about strengths...did you know there are 34 of them? How knowing what your strengths are or better yet the strengths of your fellow workers or employees can give you a leg up in business. Strap in it's a great conversation. You can hear that here!

Thanks for listening!

What Is Your Strength - Meet Paul Allen

I knew, because this is what we do, that Paul Allen was one of the founders of Ancestry.com but what I didn't know was how his life has been impacted since becoming involved in the "Strengths Movement". (Didn't know there was such a ting...?) Paul has taken the decades old data about the 34 different strengths that are out there and now works with businesses to help them define hiring profiles. We all have different strengths and, according to Paul, those differences are what can make or break a company. Now his new company SOAR.com helps gather these Strengths Coaches all in one place.This is fascinating stuff...go!

Social Security, Public Projects and Rural America with Tom Vilsack

The Progressive Policy Institute held a forum featuring former Secretary of Agriculture and Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, former Iowa Secretary of Agriculture and Lt. Governor Patty Judge and State Representative Chris Hall (D-Sioux City) that focused on the lack of public project funding. The bottom line was that the United States has all but eliminated great public works projects that at one time created thousands of jobs and provided a better standard of living for all Americans. The event was designed to push the topic into focus for the 2020 presidential campaign. Following the event I was able to ask Secretary Vilsack several questions which you'll hear in this short clip.
