People, Jobs, Housing and More with Mary Bontrager

A couple of weeks ago I heard Mary Bontrager the Executive Vice President of Talent Development for the Greater Des Moines Partnership give a stunning report on the number of jobs that are not being filled in Central Iowa due to the fact we simply don't have the people. And that's not just an Iowa issue but something that is being felt all across the Midwest. So, we know the issue...what steps might we take to fix what may take our economy backward? Click through to listen.

The Affordable Housing Battle in Urbandale, Iowa

Everybody talks about it. "It" is affordable housing. There is a direct link between communities being able to provide affordable living conditions and economic development. And, there is a big impact that affordable housing has on filling jobs. With over 17,000 open positions in the Greater Des Moines Metro it's something that really matters. Affordable housing is on the short list of the goals espoused by the Greater Des Moines Partnership as well as one of the communities in this story. It's a story I stumbled on early this week and it has to do with the Merle Hay Mall, Anawim Housing and the City of Urbandale.  Let's get started....
