The Metro Home Improvement Program

I was out meeting people in my community the other day and a resident asked me if there was a place where they could get some "help" in replacing old windows that were drafty. We went looking and found the Metro Home Improvement Program that serves several metro communities. Here Christine Gordon, the coordinator of the program based out of West Des Moines, talks about how it can help homeowners, how the program is structured, who qualifies, how much money can be allocated and how to make application online or by phone at 515-273-0770. What a great program for those who qualify. Listen and pass this along?

Architecture is Fun with Peter Exley

Having fun at your job is one of the cornerstones to the work of Peter Exley who was in town to MC the American Institute of Architects - Iowa Chapter awards event. Here we talk about how his company Architecture is Fun approaches their work, how they "play" and how they involve others in the major decisions of how to build structures that are comfortable and, sometimes, comforting to the people who use them. Peter truly has a unique brand and we enjoyed meeting him!

The Foundry - A Media Peek

The media was invited to an event at The Foundry a very unique (for the Des Moines Metro) mixed-use redevelopment project that will transform a 25,000 square foot 19th Century railroad maintenance building into three distinct sections. The Hall - A food and beverage restaurant and beer venue. The Distillery - A commercial production facility and The Kitchen - A non-profit commissary kitchen with a social mission to fight hunger, homelessness and provide skills training. Here we visit with Jorgen Jensen of the Foundry Project about the history behind the building and what they uncovered during the multi-million dollar renovation and then some information from Scott Bush the man behind the Foundery Distilling Company. This is...very...cool with a "hat tip" to Invision the architects of the project.
