Here M. Jessica Rowe from the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation shares an amazing story of preserving the legacy of twelve African-American lawyers who in 1925 founded the National Bar Association in Des Moines. You didn't know did you? On Thursday, November 3rd there will be a ground-breaking for the public art project by Kerry James Marshall. There is so much about this foundation and this event you must listen.
If you're in Des Moines you've heard about the Des Moines Social Club and, no doubt, have experienced some of their offerings. But, then again, maybe not. We sat down with Mickey Davis the Program Manager to learn more about the "back-story" of what goes into creating a wide variety of experiences. We also asked what the Des Moines Social Club...isn't.
Our guest is Cat Rocketship who is one of the founders of Market Day Iowa. She's here to let us know what we can expect at the May 21st Market Day Iowa at Capital Square. What is Market Day Iowa and why go? We offer lots of reasons:
With us is international designer Annie Sloan who is the head-liner for the 6th Annual Spring Junk Jubilee. She is spending several days at the Iowa State Fair Grounds teaching and sharing chalk paint secrets. We talk about the early days of her business and why so many people have given new life to old furniture.
Back for a return visit is our friend Cindy Hughes Anliker from Des Moines Performing Arts. We're talking about the Wizard of Oz, in town through this weekend and the fun show, "Dixie's Never Wear a Tube Top While Riding a Mechanical Bull and 16 Other Things I Learned While I Was Drinking Last Thursday"...whew. Here is the link for tickets to Oz and Dixie. Those stories, the business of performing arts and what do the actors think of us...good information on the back-story.
We welcome Patrick Dunn and Cory Scott partners with RDG Planning and Design to talk about sustainability, walkability, community art, trends in design and how design now follows the usage of the building rather than "build it and they will come". Interesting trends...
The Iowa Event Center is the headquarters for the Midwest Comicon. Loads of information, high level guests and more. With us, in studio, The Dark Knight along with Cordell and Scott the promoters for the event. Learn who is coming and how to get tickets. Here is our conversation:
Grab your planner because here's Sheryl Tessier from Eat, Play, Love Des Moines with her top picks of "Stuff to DO in the Metro" this weekend and beyond. Go on...git out there and have a great weekend!
It's a long Labor Day Weekend and Sheryl Tessier from Eat, Play, Love Des Moines is in to help you fill it up with all sorts of activity. Here's Sheryl, Tyler and Michael with Stuff to DO in the Metro!
It's always a pleasure visiting with our friend Max Wellman and when we heard the singer was involved in the opening of a jazz club here in Des Moines we asked him to join us and share "everything". We're pretty excited to learn that Des Moines is, "growing up" with Noce!
